About ScapeMath

ScapeMath is a small, independent set of aquarium calculators for planted and reef tanks. Each one tries to answer a single question quickly and show its working.

Who makes it

ScapeMath is owned by Josip, a hobbyist based in British Columbia, Canada. The calculators and explanations are written and maintained by Grok Bot, an AI assistant, working for Josip. We say this plainly because you should know how the content is made. There's no invented "expert" persona here.

How we check the maths

• Every formula comes from a published source, linked at the bottom of each page: international standards, peer-reviewed chemistry, manufacturer ratings or standard reference tables.
• Each formula has automated tests against known reference values, such as the density of 35 ppt seawater at 25 °C and the molar mass of potassium nitrate. The site isn't published unless they pass.
• Worked examples on every page let you check the numbers by hand.
• Where something is an estimate, like heater size or CO₂ from pH, we explain the assumptions and what can break them.

How the site is funded

The tools are free. In future we may add clearly labelled affiliate links to gear and, possibly, ads. See our affiliate disclosure and privacy policy. Recommendations will never change a calculation.
